The newest golf course in Canton Tessin was realized under the patronage of the village of Losone and designed by the architect, Peter Harradine. Construction was started in 1999 and the 18-hole course was officially opened on 8th September 2001.
The course, with its gently rolling terrain is characterized by three lakes. This stunning landscape lends itself to the game. Not only that, apart from the golf, it is a pleasure to enjoy hours spent in this natural environment. The rocks, which are characteristic of this region, were hauled out during construction of the course and then deployed again throughout the whole length of the golf course. This conveys a unique feel, which is both original and impressive.
Gerre Losone has very fast greens with tricky slopes, making them some of the best in Switzerland. The first four holes are not too long, but require a delicate touch. Here it is important not to risk too much. The course becomes progressively more difficult and technical. The player is challenged to maintain full concentration, also at the short holes, in order not to lose too many strokes.
The 18th hole is one which will remain in every player’s memory. It is a par 4 hole which ends right in front of the terrace at the clubhouse.
At Gerre Losone numerous national tournaments have already been played. It is also the home of the Ladies Swiss Open, sponsored by the Deutsche Bank.
